A Fresh Start in January

We have made several adjustments since we have started back in January. We have added new bulletin boards in our classroom that help us learn and we changed the way we are doing centers. Here are some photos to help explain the changes:
Here is our center chart. There are 10 centers. The class is split into five differentiated groups. We have two center rotations a day. Children will complete all 10 centers each week.

These are our center tubs. There is a tub for each center. Our tubs hold our supplies that we need for each center.

Addison is working hard to represent numbers using blocks at the math center.
Daisy Group is using the reading strategies they just learned to read a decodable book.
Ms. Tori works with the Phonics/ ABC center. They have been working on short vowels this week.
At the pocket chart center, students are sorting pictures by their initial sound.
At the art center, students are coloring a picture of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
We now have an objective bulletin board in our class. I post the Common Core objectives that we will be working on for the week on the board.
The students now have a writing board in the class. This board has reference posters to help them during Writer's Workshop.
I changed the letters on the word wall to help them stand out. We are adding words to the wall each week!
Today, we did a blubber experiment. Students were able to feel what ice water feels like to Arctic Animals. Students learned that blubber helps keep these animals very warm!
